Carriage Mounted Spreader Bars - This kind of mast has three parts as the name implies. The outer part is attached firmly to the lift vehicle. The next section telescopes inside the mounted exterior section and the interior most part telescopes inside the middle section. Both the middle and the internal part elevate and the lift cylinders extend. Once again in this model, the fork carriage rides inside the interior part. The 3 stage mast provides a shorter lowered height than the 2 stage mast. The common usage of the 3 stage mast is in areas such as doorways where overhead clearances are limited. This mast is often outfitted with a center cylinder so as to let the fork carriage elevate some distance before the mast sections start lengthening.
There are two main parts in a 2 Stage Mast. The outer section of the mast is connected to the lift vehicle. The inner part sits in the outer section and raises as the cylinders lengthen. The fork carriage is actually positioned within the inner section. This mast type has a taller lowered height than an equivalent 3 stage mast or lift height quad mast.
